Monel, Inconel, Hastelloy, Nickel
Inconel Material Types
Inconel is a group of nickel-chromium based alloys.
Inconel is primarily composed of
Nickel (58% to 72%)
Chromium (14% to 23%)
Molybdenum (3% to 10%) in some, but not all Inconel materials
Other elements, such as molybdenum, titanium, and copper, are also present in varying proportions.
Corrosion Resistance: Inconel alloys exhibit excellent resistance to corrosion and oxidation.
High-Temperature Strength: Inconel retains its strength over a wide temperature range, making it ideal for applications where aluminum and steel would succumb to thermal creep.
Passivating Oxide Layer: When heated, Inconel forms a thick, stable oxide layer that protects the surface from further attack.
Toughness and Durability: These alloys offer high abrasion resistance and toughness.
The Inco name is derived from the International Nickel Company (Inco).

Monel Material Types
Monel is a group of nickel-copper alloys.
Monel is primarily composed of
Nickel (52% to 67%)
Copper (29% to 34%)
Other elements, such as iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon are also present in varying proportions.
Unlike cupronickel alloys, Monel contains less than 60% copper. These alloys exhibit remarkable properties, making them valuable in various applications:
Corrosion Resistance: Monel alloys are highly resistant to corrosion by aggressive agents, including rapidly flowing seawater. They maintain their integrity in harsh environments.
Temperature Tolerance: Monel retains its strength at low and high temperatures
Toughness: Monel alloy 400, in particular, exhibits excellent mechanical properties even at subzero temperatures.
Monel was named after Ambrose Monell, with one “L” dropped due to trademark restrictions at the time

Hastelloy Material Types
Hastelloy is a group of nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys.
Hastelloy is primarily composed of
Nickel (54% to 67%)
Chromium (14% to 16%)
Molybdenum (15% - 17%)
Hastelloy contains other elements such as iron, tungsten, cobalt, manganese, and copper.
Corrosion Resistance: Hastelloy alloys excel in resisting corrosive chemicals, acids (such as hydrochloric acid), and oxidizing agents.
Temperature Range: Hastelloy alloys exhibit medium- to high-temperature resistance, making them suitable for extreme conditions.
The term “Hastelloy” originated from the Haynes International company, which originally developed these superalloys.
